In generation 1, Blackout from Transformers is Spaceshot’s

partner and they’re a team of Micromasters Combiners. Originally

they always appeared together in the animated series, thus making

it hard to distinguish between the two who was who. According

to his biography, Blackout is a brave warrior, but frequently a

coward when the odds where just slightly turned against him or

his team. On the other hand Spaceshot obliged him to keep

pushing till the end of the battle was reached.

Fast forwarding all the way to 2007, Blackout appears in the live

action movie as a Decepticon who can transform into a military

helicopter. Early scripts implied that this helicopter transforming

character would be named Vortex, but potentially because of

Lack of trademark on the name they decided to switch it to

Blackout. In fact, Blackout had numerous codenames before

finalizing: Incinerator, Soundwave and Vortex. All of these names

had been used by at least one transformers toy in the past.

The movie writers agree that Blackout from Transformers is the

biggest Decepticon, this gives him the ability to transport other

Decepticons from one place to another. Blackout has the unique

ability to interrupt electronic equipment by releasing EMP blasts.

He also has an array of canons and missile launchers which serve

well during battle. When in helicopter mode, he can simulate the

holographic appearance of a human being driving the helicopter,

who’s referred to as Mustache Man. Furthermore, Scorponok is

transported by Blackout on his back.

Like many other Transformers, Blackout’s tech specs vary

depending on the source. If you take a look at his tech spec card

he’s supposed to be 33 feet tall, but according to the toy he

should be 55 feet tall. His height remains a mystery, yet it’s a

know fact that he’s even larger than Decepticon leader Megatron.

In the movie’s prequel novel Blackout stands out as Starscream’s

biggest rival for the leadership of the Decepticons. When he

finally got the opportunity he led Frenzy and Bonecrusher to an

Autobot attack in which he failed miserably against Optimus

Prime. He then fought a duel against Starscream for complete

Decepticon leadership, but he lost against the superior prowess of

his stronger opponent.

Blackout is the very first Transformer to appear in the movie.

With Scorponok riding on his back, they are the first to disengage

an attack against US military forces in Qatar. Conveniently he’s

disguised as a US military helicopter which was lost three months

earlier, thus he was able to sneak in the SOCCENT base without

mayor issues. Once inside the base, he shatters it to pieces only

leaving a handful of humans alive. Later in the movie Blackout

eads over to Frenzy’s calling about finding the Allspark. When

summoned by Starscream, Blackout from Transformers proves to

be ultimately loyal to Megatron, in his own words: “All hail

Megatron”. In the final battle he’s eventually killed by Captain

Lennox and jet fighters simultaneously shooting heavy missiles

towards him.

MeGaTron – The Leader of the Decepticons even badder in the movie than in the original cartoon…

Megatron is the the Decepticon’s leader, a Decepticon robot who transforms originally into a Walther P38. Very much like his main rival Optimus Prime, Megatron is given wide exposure in the Transformers Universe due to his role as the evil leader he is. “Megatron” is a name made by the combination of two words: Megaton and Electronic. In the beginning, Hasbro, the Transformers toy manufacturers had issues with the name since it implied danger, sounding like some kind of lethal weapon. However it was agreed for the name to remain Megatron since the leader of the villains just had to reasonably have this destructive denomination.

Megatron is practically flawless and notably uncompassionate. His transformation is that of a really powerful cannon gun that can blast off an entire block with just one shot. Furthermore, he can also merge his weapon to some type of black hole, leveraging its power even more. Such force is so strong that he can use it to destroy a small planet. This skill is almost never employed by Megatron because it absorbs too much energy and stamina leaving him an easy target to his opponents.

Additionally Megatron has a barrel weapon on his back and he can also transform his right hand with an energy cannon. If that isn’t enough, he can also blast electrical charges from his fingers and laser rays from his eyes. Strategically, Megatron can also reprogram computers with a special device from his head. When transforming into a Walther P38 he can assume many sizes making it possible for another Decepticon or maybe even human-being to use him as a hand weapon. In one exciting episode he maintains full size and connects to Starscream, making him a major threat for the Autobots.

Megatron has been interpreted by some as being a strategic mastermind, while others claim he’s a battlefield strategist who brutally destroys and sets an example. As opposed to many fictional villains who characterize themselves by being fanatically evil without a cause, Megatron is known to have some sort of reasoning that lead him to make decisions, even if he was only making sense to himself one time or another.

Curiously there have been some special events in which Megatron shows his appreciation for fairness in combat and sometimes even shows himself honorable. His utterly complex relationship with Optimus Prime is just one example of such traits. Both leaders show the utmost respect for one another, maybe because they know each other so well. Megatron certainly seems to enjoy his complex relationship with Optimus, sometimes taking it to such extents as to help Optimus with life threatening situations. In his mind, it’s him and only him who can put an end to Prime, leader of the Autobots. It’s been said that the two could be considered best friends if it where not for such diametrically opposing points of view.

Megatron’s technical specifications state that he has no weakness at all. However, he is not invincible and can be beaten by his enemies. Due to his massive powers and abused confidence Megatron always seems to miss an important detail in combat, often causing him to retreat his troops from combat. A key factor contributing to the majority of his losses is his poor and harsh relationships with his own comrades. Megatron’s
top achievement is to conquer Cybertron and to accomplish this he must conquer it at all costs, even if that means the massive destruction of other Transformers.
